The Marques de Riscal Winery is a national and international reference in the wine world. And not only for wine, since 2007 also stand out for the avant-garde hotel located in the same cellars, the work of the prestigious Canadian architect Frank Gehry.
Founded in 1858, they are one of the oldest wineries in Spain. In addition, it is possibly one of the wineries with the most international presence, exporting to dozens of countries. What good ambassadors of Spain!

It is located in Rioja Alavesa region, although closer to Logroño city (24 km) than to Vitoria city (50 km).

Winery visit options
All visits include the visit of the winery and the attached vineyards, the only difference being the final wine tasting (Reserve your visit in the official link of Marques de Riscal winery).
Visit of the Marques de Riscal winery
Firstly, we went to a room where we saw a video explaining the origin, history and current situation of the Marques de Riscal winery.
Once finished, we went to the area around the hotel and the vineyards, where we could enjoy the views of the impressive building signed by Frank Gehry.
You might like it or not, but leaves no one indifferent. We loved it!
As they explained to us, the design and colours have clear references to the world of wine: purple titanium, as a reference to red wine, the colour silver, in reference to the capsule that covers the neck of the bottle, and the gold colour, as a representation of the mesh that covers the Marques de Riscal bottles.
We stroll for a while through the well-cared vineyards and continue our visit to the old wineries and wine treatment and bottling facilities.
Although the whole visit is interesting, the old cellars where the wine barrels are stored caught our attention. All correctly aligned and at a constant temperature for the good conservation of the wine.
At the end of the visit, we arrived at the area known as “the cathedral”. Here, in some old wine racks, authentic jewels are kept for wine lovers. There are bottles from the first harvest (1862)!
After contemplating this special area, we finish the visit with the best taste in the mouth. Although now there was the tasting …
Wine tasting at the Marqués de Riscal winery
With the visit we contracted, we were able to taste various wines produced at the Marques de Riscal winery. Those chosen were: Marques de Riscal Rueda Verdejo, Arienzo of Marques de Riscal and Marques de Riscal vintage (Marques de Riscal online store), accompanied by meats from the area (sausage and salami). What a magnificent closing of the visit!
